Sun, sand, beach, great weather… a cold beer and a winning Mega Millions ticket. Can you ask for more? Well, yeah, you can always ask for more, but let’s stick with this for now. Well, we’ve got the good weather, the beach, and the cold beer here in Florida; now all we need is a ticket with the winning Mega Millions numbers.
But don’t worry, you can take care of that. But first, you need to get your Mega Millions ticket. Not sure how or where to do that? Stick with us. Here’s a guide to everything you need to know to play the Florida Mega Millions and win one of these fantastic prizes.
How Does the Florida Mega Millions Work?
To play Mega Millions in Florida, you must pick five numbers from 1 to 70 and an extra number for the Mega Ball, which is 1 to 25. If these six numbers match the winning numbers drawn in Mega Millions, you win the big jackpot.
So… how do you pick those numbers? You can let fate decide by using the Quick Pick option, where the machine instantly selects six of your numbers. It’s quick and easy if you don’t have any lucky numbers in mind.
Or, if you prefer, you can pick them yourself. You can use important dates like birthdays and anniversaries, or choose the most common numbers in Mega Millions. Whatever you prefer.
Once you pick your numbers, remember to register them in Lottonia App. Immediately after the drawing, Lottonia will send a notification to your phone with the winning numbers. That way, you’ll be the first to know if you won!
Each Mega Millions ticket costs two dollars. But for an extra dollar, you can add the Megaplier option, which multiplies any non-jackpot prize up to 5 times. Is it worth the extra dollar? We’ll break it down below.
Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET, and tickets can be bought until 10 p.m. on drawing days.
Mega Millions Prizes and Odds
Now that you know how to play Mega Millions in Florida, let’s talk about why you should play.
The answer is: The prizes. And spoiler alert: they are huge!
Let’s start with the big one, the jackpot. The Mega Millions jackpot starts at $20 million and grows with each drawing if there’s no winner.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever was $1.602 billion, won by a single player in October 2023. Guess where they were from? That’s right, Florida!
But aside from the jackpot, there are 8 other prize levels range from a $2 to $1 Million. Yes, you read that right – $1 Million! These prize depends on how many numbers you match.
And that’s not the final amount… Remember that extra Megaplier option? That’s where it comes in.
For example, if you match the five main numbers and win the second prize of $1 million, adding the Megaplier could boost your prize up to $5 million. Worth that extra dollar, right?

If your prize is more than $1 million, or if you chose the annual payment option, you’ll need to claim it in person at the Florida Lottery headquarters.
