We’re thrilled to announce the victorious winner of the New Year’s Day Powerball jackpot. In an incredible start to the year a player from Michigan hit the Powerball Jackpot on New Year’s Day winning a whopping $842.4 million. The jackpot has a cash value of $425.2 million.

The initial value of the jackpot was $810 million. However, final ticket sales increased the jackpot to a staggering $842.4 million. This makes it the fifth largest Powerball jackpot and the tenth largest jackpot ever won in the U.S. Lottery.

This is the first time a player has won a Powerball jackpot on New Year’s Day since the game began in 1992.

The winning numbers were 12, 21, 42, 44, 49 and Powerball 1 with a Power Play of 3X. If you read our post Luckiest lottery numbers of 2023, you’ll know that 12 and 21 were among the most frequently drawn white balls this year. In addition, the number 1 repeated as a Powerball seven times.

The winning ticket was sold at a Food Castle store in Grand Blanc, Michigan, just outside of Flint. It’s the second largest lottery jackpot ever won in the state, after the $1.050 billion Mega Millions jackpot won in January 2021.

The lucky winner can choose between an annuitized prize of $842.4 million or a lump sum of $425.2 million. Both prize options are before taxes.
